Taking strategic risks paid off for Team BOC's Jason Bright today at Phillip Island as he delivered the team's first podium of the year.
Most cars stopped twice during the 45-lap race but Bright stayed out and, despite having to conserve fuel, pulled away from the field in the mid-section of the race.
FPR's Will Davison was able to leapfrog him in the pits, however, due to extra time needed for refuelling in Team BOC's one-and-only pit stop.
In the closing stages Bright held both TeamVodafone cars at bay for more than ten laps before Craig Lowndes snuck past on lap 41.
Bright crossed the line third and is now looking forward to testing and refining the team's new set-up at Winton next week.
V8 Supercars will be back in action next month at Hidden Valley Raceway, Darwin.

"Last year the 500 at Phillip Island was a bit of a struggle so to be on the pace all weekend has been very satisfying. I think we'll be pretty strong from now on and develop as a team instead of working on different directions.
"Last year we went through a couple of good races at Perth and Winton where our problems just didn't show up. I said at the time I was concerned we had won those races too early and didn't want to run that set-up as our base.
"New Zealand really showed up those strengths and weaknesses and we've worked hard in that area ever since. After finishing fourth at Barbagallo earlier this month there was concern that it was just another good race in Perth but this weekend we've been strong every session. That makes me think we've got on top of the problems we were having at certain tracks.
"FPR and TeamVodafone have been doing a good job all year. I didn't think we would be mixing with them without a test day but here we are. We've got a test next week so we will be able to fine-tune our direction and hopefully come back even better."
